2 Months Old

Kirksey, you are 2 months old today! So what have you been up to?

You are still in size 1 diapers, although you are getting more little rolls! We do not go through as many diapers as we used to in a day. I think part of that is due to the fact that your daddy is getting better/faster at the diaper changes! I think you have gotten more "control" over it all too though.

You are still wearing newborn sized clothes, but I do not think it will be long before you move up to 0-3 month outfits. They are just a little big on you right now.

You are smiling so much these days and you even have a giggle here and there! You are also starting to coo a lot. You need a little prompting, but then you go with it! These are some of the sweetest sounds ever!

You are doing such a good job sitting in your Bumbo seat, but you only last about 5-10 minutes and you are ready to get out. I think it is because you don't like to sit still in one place very long. I think you are going to be a busy little girl!

You love to look at EVERYTHING. You really want to know what is going on around you. You can hear my voice and you will turn to look for where I am. I noticed this one day when your dad was holding you and I was just walking around and talking to him. It makes me so happy to feel like you really know who I am. Maybe your first word will be "mama"? "Dada" or any other word you say first will be perfect too!

You are doing good "mini push-ups" during tummy time. You sometimes get your leg swinging so much that I think you might "accidently" roll yourself over one day soon.

You sleep really good at night (almost every night). The most you have slept in one stretch was 9 hours! You only did that once. You average about 6-7 hours, which is great! Your good stretches of sleep are always in the swing. We are slowly trying to conquer the crib!  We are also still working on naps during the day. You will maybe take a couple of short naps (30 minutes give or take) without being held. You definitely prefer to be held though!

Your dad and I love you more and more with every day that goes by! We are so enjoying getting to see the glimpses of your personality you show us every day!

Naps

Or at the beginning of this week the lack of naps. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were hard days around our house. Kirksey would not take a nap and I was at my wits' end.  I had tried everything I could think of, even a car ride didn't work. Kirksey would only nap in my arms or on me while I was wearing the Baby Bjorn. Everytime I would set her down after she had fallen asleep she would stay asleep for about 2-3 minutes then would wake up crying/screaming. I would pick her up and she would calm down very fast and be wide-eyed for a while. During these wide-eyed moments she would look into my eyes and give me a BIG smile. I think God knew that when I saw those smiles there was no way I could be mad at her. Yesterday, however, she took a good 45 minute nap in her crib! Then today she took another nap in her crib for 45 minutes and this afternoon she has been asleep for a while in her swing! I was even able to nap a little too!
How could I ever be mad at this sweet face, even with the sleep deprivation...

I'm LOVING these smiles!

Birthday Weekend

I am officially 29 (not 30 dad, ha!) and I had a great day! But first, I must give an update on the star of our lives...
Richard painted our master bathroom on Wednesday, so in lieu of that we decided to get away from the paint fumes and sleep upstairs. We packed up the pack 'n' play and put Kirksey in her room for the first night. She did end up sleeping in the swing instead of her crib, but we are in the process of working on that. She slept so good...about 6-7 hours! I, on the other hand, did not sleep so well. I think it was because it was the first night she was not in the room with us (we were sleeping in the other room upstairs). I know we were really only about 30 yards from her, but it just was not the same. I'm sure every mom goes through this, but it makes me realize how fast she is "growing up" already. Don't get me wrong though I am happy she is in her room now (especially after Richard put so much work into making it perfect), but it is still a little sad. Oh, she also loves her room. She always stares at the paint on the walls and seems so content! She is sleeping an average of about 5 hours a night now in her room. Richard and I are back in our room now too, so we just make the trip upstairs to feed/soothe/change diapers. Maybe having to go up and down the stairs a lot will help me loose the extra baby weight, ha!
Uncle Michael and Aunt Christa came to visit for my birthday to meet Kirksey for the first time! They got here late Friday night and left this morning. We really enjoyed them being here. Kirksey already loves them.  Uncle Michael could make her smile SO big. Unfortunately, I was only able to get one on camera that was close to being as big as some of the other smiles.

For my birthday…
Richard let me sleep in while he took care of Kirksey. Then, Richard and Michael fixed us breakfast. Christa and I went to get pedicures for our birthdays (her birthday is on the 28th). We decided that we need to make this a tradition for our birthdays! Richard and Michael were on baby duty while we were out. So, Kirksey was put in the Baby Bjorn. This is what I use to get some housework done like vacuuming.

And, this is what Richard uses it for...

After we got back from the nail salon we all went downtown and spent some time walking around.

Last night we went to Cypress for my birthday dinner.

Even though last year when we went there for my birthday a bat fell into our booth, this restaurant is still one of my favorites in Charleston. Richard and I always get the Chateaubriand, and it is so good. They bring it out and make the presentation table-side. We also get the Caesar salad that they make table-side (the waiters must love us!). Richard ordered a bottle of champagne for us to celebrate the occasion too! Kirksey was very good and after getting her bottle she slept in her car seat the rest of the meal.

Playing and Party

We have just been enjoying our little girl the past couple of weeks along with trying to get some sleep and a little housework done in between!
Kirksey has been playing with this mat everyday! (Thank you Jeremy and Courtney) She loves the music and all the things she can look at. It is fun to see how much she "discovers" while she is playing. She has even made some coos!
Maci has gotten to where he will sit beside the mat when Kirksey is playing. It's like he is guarding her!
She loves hanging out with Richard when he gets home from work. He can always calm her down so easy. I definitely think she will be a daddy's girl.
Everyday that goes by with our little family, I find myself loving Richard and Kirksey even more. It's amazing how love grows even when you think it is at its max.
This past Saturday Kirksey went to her first birthday party! Mills turned ONE! His mommy, Nicole, did an awesome job with his party and all the decorating. I think she should go into the party planning business.

These were the "big kids" at the party

I snapped this picture without Robert's knowledge. He is looking pretty comfortable!

How much prettier can she be in her party dress?
So, Liz told me she was practicing double fisting multitasking.

Mills liked Kelly's hair
Calee, you and Robert are looking good with a baby in your arms!

We were worn out after all the party fun.
