2 Months Old

Sam, you are 2 months old now!

You are a big boy! We went for our 2 month shots a little early at 6 1/2 weeks. Your stats then were:
Weight - 11 lbs 8 oz (97%)
Height - 21 inches (75%)
You are still in size 1 diapers, but they are starting to get a little snug on your cute chunky thighs.
You wear mostly 0-3 month clothing, but some 3 month and 3-6 month clothes.

You still eat about every 3 hours during the day, occasionally you will go a little longer. At night you have started to have a stretch of anywhere between 5-7 hours between feedings.
You give us big gummy smiles and even chuckle every now and then. You make it hard for me to get many on camera though.

You are good at holding your head up.
You follow our voices and objects with your eyes.

I love the way you look at me with those big eyes.
You are a good traveller. We have travelled a lot in the car and even made the flight to and from Hawaii.
We are already so proud of you!

Sam, you are 1 month old today! This month has gone by so fast. I can't believe we have been a family of 4 this long!

You have just started wearing size 1 diapers and either newborn or 0-3 month clothes.
You nurse about every 3 hours. You have had a few 4 hour stretches at night (along with a 5 hour and a 6 hour stretch). I am hoping that the longer stretches will become more common.
You nap a good bit during the day and have a few short "awake" times.
Your big awake time is usually after your 5-6ish feeding. You usually get fussy during this time too.

You are starting to tolerate your baths better now than the first few.

You also like tummy time better now than the first time we did it.

You actually roll over from your stomach to your back almost every time you are put on your belly. You were 6 days old the first time you did this and I thought it was just because you did not weigh very much, but it continues to happen even though you have gained a good bit more weight. We have it on video to prove it.

You are a good baby.

You had your first bottle a few days ago and did really well.

Kirksey even helped.

She is such a good big sister and loves you so much.

You always give your daddy good smiles when he is holding you.

You have brought so much happiness to our lives. We love you so much and look forward to watching you grow!

Sam Robert Heard

Sam decided to come a little early at 35 weeks and 2 days gestation. He was born at 10:57 pm on June 15. He weighed 5 lbs 13 oz and measured 19 1/2 inches long. I was so relieved once he arrived and I could see that he was doing well. As a NICU nurse I was very concerned when my water broke.
So, here is the story of Sam's arrival.
Richard and I had been trying to get a few things in their place Saturday morning. (Getting the room straightened, washing the car seat cover, etc.) Then right after lunch Richard headed 2 hours away to go fishing with a friend. I put Kirksey down for her nap and started watching MSU baseball in their first game of the College World Series. Once Richard got to Greenwood he realized that he didn't have phone service so his friend, Ricky, text me his number just in case I need to get in touch with Richard. About 10 min later (around 2:55 pm) I got up to go to the restroom and a huge "gush" occurred. I'll admit that I was a little in denial that my water had just broken. In hindsight, it was very obvious. (I did not know what it was like with Kirksey since they did that after I got my epidural with her). Immediately I called Richard to tell him about it, and he got back in his car to drive here. I then called my OB who told me to head into the hospital. So, I woke Kirksey up from her nap and drove us to the hospital. It was not a fun drive. Poor Richard was on speaker with me for most of the drive making sure that I got us there alright, while I was both crying and trying to keep it together. After checking into the hospital, it was confirmed that my water had broken and I would be having a baby soon. I was doing so well progressing on my own that I was never given any medicine to speed labor up. Finally close to 10:30 I was ready to push. They got everything ready, called NICU to attend the delivery, and before they could arrive Sam was here crying robustly. I only had to push one time!
I could not be more thankful for how well things had gone, especially after being a high risk pregnancy and early labor. He is just as perfect as could be!
