8 Months Old

Kirksey, you are 8 months old today!

You wear a few 3-6 month outfits still, but are mostly in 6 month. A few 6-9 month things fit too.
You wear size 3 diapers.
You sleep all night and I am so thankful for that! Then when I come in to get you in the morning you are standing in your bed waiting on me.

You take 2 naps a day. The first one is in the morning about 2 hours after you wake up. Then the afternoon nap is about an hour or so after you eat lunch. Sometimes if the second nap is short you will take another short one right before dinnertime.
You nurse 5-6 times a day.
You eat either oatmeal or rice cereal for breakfast with some type of fruit in it, usually bananas, apples, or prunes.
At dinner you have vegetables and maybe a fruit or meat, all pureed. You have gotten to where you will eat banana pieces though.
You also love to eat puffs.
I am trying to teach you the word "more" in sign language. You can't do it yourself yet, but I am confident by the look on your face that you know what I am saying when I do it.
You had your first fever on July 19. Your temperature got up to 102.1 (rectally). You didn't even act like you felt too bad, you played all day. I was so glad when it finally went away. It broke my heart to only be able to give you tylenol and not do anything more to make it go away. I can only imagine how sad/worried I will be when you are sick and obviously feeling bad.

You are such a sweet girl. You love your mama and daddy. You are particularly fond of me and will often fuss when I walk by you, go into the other room, or pass you off to someone else to hold. You will instantly stop fussing as soon as you are back in my arms. I know this stage will only last for a short while so instead of worrying that is it is hard sometimes, I try to enjoy that you want your mama these days.
We play with all kinds of things throughout the day. Many times the things that are not toys become the most fun to play with, of course I supervise closely.

You also played with a piece of ice until it melted, and you were so entertained.

We also have lots of "real" toys you play with inside and outside.

You get in this little pool almost every other day.

You are now taking baths in the regular tub and you enjoy them so much. You take a bath every other night, unless you are too dirty to wipe with a cloth in between bath nights.

You are crawling all over the place. There have been times when I have gone to throw something in the other room and I have to look around to find where you went. Needless to say, we have started to babyproof the house. Thankfully, there are lots of doors in our house that we can close and keep you contained in one area.
You pull up on everything...the couch, chairs, dresser, drawers, my legs.
You took your first steps on July 26. You were standing facing me and I made you let go of my hands. You stood for a second or two, then took 3 steps before falling into my arms. I think you might just start walking before your first tooth surfaces!
You still love looking at yourself in the mirror. I think you know it is you that you are looking at though and not just another baby. You are a smart little girl.

You make some of the funniest faces, but everytime I try to get a picture of them you will smile and pose for the camera.
You have gotten your first pair of shoes with a rubber sole.

You have been doing this "come here" motion with your hand. It is always your right hand that you do it with. So I wonder, will you be right-handed like your daddy or left-handed like me?

You also observe everything around you and never miss a thing!

You are the joy of our lives. We love you more and more everyday. It is so exciting and fun to see all the ways you are changing and growing.

Couponing

I have been using coupons since Richard and I got married, but I've never really gotten the "hang" of it as all those "extreme couponers". Ramey inspired me the other day to sit down and make a plan. I am by no means an extreme couponer, but I was pretty pleased with my shot at it...

Walgreens
Total-$48.57
Paid-$17.50
Saved-$31.07

CVS
Total-$57.58
Paid-$24.54
Saved-$33.04

I only paid for 39% of all these products. Now to try to get that percentage lower!

Lake

We went to the lake house this past weekend. Kirksey liked being in the water overall. She is going to have to get used to being splashed (by Bruno) and learn to not be scared of the waves from other boats. But she is still small and will grow to love it one day.

Kirksey did not like the life vest. It is a little big right now and made her have a "chubby", but cute face.

She cried for most of the boat ride

But finally wore herself out and took a little nap on the way back to the house.

She loves swings and enjoyed hanging out with Mimi

We took several a family picture. These are the best two.

Little family pic

One day soon, she will enjoy the lake and fuss when we have to leave.

P.S. Kirksey took 3 unassisted steps this morning before she fell in my arms!

Recently and playdates

We have had a couple of playdates since we have been in Tennessee. The first one was with a baby girl whose parents went to my parent's church before moving here for residency. This is Kirksey and Annie having their fun...along side one another.

We also took a short trip to have a playdate with Kenzie. We were able to use one of their sweet neighbor's pool. It was a first for both the girls. I would have to say that they liked it. We will definitely have to do this again.

Playing in the kitchen before going swimming.

Kenzie had to test out the float for Kirksey after I blew it up!

They had fun.

We also just went to the first Heard renunion that I have gone to this past weekend. I made sure to pack my camera, but forgot about it in the car once we got there. So, unfortunately I do not have any pictures. We had a good time though. It is nice to be close enough to be able to do things like the renunion.

Then, today I blew up this little pool for Kirksey to play in outside in our backyard. I think we will have to do this a lot on these hot days.

Kirksey has also been making this face lately. I guess she is trying to be like Elvis since we are now in Memphis!

She is also wanting to pull up on everything and stand, so we got her this walk n ride. She still has some practicing to do before she really gets the hang of it though.

While unpacking we came across my favorite (and very first) stuffed animal I had growing up. I think Kirksey will like the little dog.

She also likes to help feed herself these days. We end up having some messy mornings with oatmeal. I know it will only get messier from here on out.

Just a little update from us!
